Abolition and Industry Tour

"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free..."
- Emma Lazarus

In the 19th Century tens of thousands of Europeans spilled into the United States. As the industrial age transformed America from a rural, unstable new nation into an economic empire, industrialists and bankers gained exorbitant wealth while those masses grew greater by the day.

New York had abolished slavery in 1827. In the 1860s the abolitionists of America forced the hand of the federal government to confront the hypocrisy our founders left us. They encouraged us to listen to our better angels and live up to our core belief that indeed, all men are created equal.
